1,000 Trees PLANTED

And that’s a wrap!! We’ve successfully planted all 1,000 trees from our Contour Lines grant.

Depending on the species we planted on the top, in the side, on the inside, and on the outside of our berms as well as in the swale directly.

And then because we had so many trees, we also planted some trees randomly into the pasture.

Apple, Black Locust, Hazelnut, Mulberry, Wild Plum, Pear, Tulip Poplar, Chokeberry and Persimmon were all planted.

The idea is that the berm/swale system helps slow/retain water in order to increase the likelihood these trees will survive.

We selected the trees for their ability to grow quickly and provide shade, to produce fodder or to be sacrificial trees to cut and add into the swales to help create more soil.

We are already seeing signs of life on some of the twigs which is so exciting as we dream of a few more years down the road when we will really begin to reap the benefits.

Now to rest our backs!
